In Italy, the installation of algorithms that analyze driving style on cars is taking its first steps. It is an innovation brought by one of the country’s leading car-sharing companies.
The purpose at the moment is to improve the maintenance of its fleet of over 2000 cars.
But if the algorithm were to have the effect of excluding users because of their driving style, Article 22 of the GDPR on automated decision making and its impact on the rights of data subjects comes to our rescue.
A new DPIA would be necessary in that case to assess the rights at stake.
